Software Engineer Intern
Job Description and Requirements
About the Role
Ida Milk LLC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Engineer Intern to assist with the development, improvement, and support of internal software systems used throughout our dairy manufacturing operations.
This internship provides hands-on experience working with real-world business and manufacturing applications. The intern will collaborate with software engineers, IT personnel, production teams, quality assurance, maintenance, warehouse personnel, and company leadership to develop tools that improve operational efficiency, data accuracy, reporting, and communication.
The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a degree in computer science, software engineering, computer programming, information technology, or a related field and is interested in applying classroom knowledge to practical business and manufacturing challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design, development, testing, and maintenance of internal software applications.
- Help develop and improve web-based applications, dashboards, reports, and data-entry tools.
- Support programming projects related to manufacturing, production, inventory, quality control, maintenance, warehouse operations, and business reporting.
- Assist with integrating internal applications with business systems, databases, and third-party software.
- Write, test, troubleshoot, and document application code under the guidance of senior developers or IT personnel.
- Help identify and resolve software errors, data issues, and user-reported system problems.
- Assist with database development, data organization, queries, and reporting.
- Participate in software testing and help validate that applications function accurately before deployment.
- Work with end users to understand operational needs and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Assist with creating user documentation, technical documentation, process instructions, and training materials.
- Support the maintenance and improvement of existing applications and internal tools.
- Participate in code reviews and follow established programming, security, and documentation standards.
- Assist with automation projects designed to reduce manual work and improve data accuracy.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of company, employee, customer, production, and financial information.
- Perform other technology-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to work primarily on-site in a professional office and manufacturing environment.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with employees throughout the facility.
- Ability to occasionally enter production, warehouse, or maintenance areas while following all required safety, sanitation, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.

Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or certificate in:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- Computer Programming
- Computer Engineering
- Data Science
- A related technical field
- Basic knowledge of one or more programming languages, such as:
- JavaScript
- TypeScript
- SQL
- Familiarity with basic software development concepts, including programming logic, debugging, testing, and version control.
- Basic understanding of relational databases and database queries.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, reliable work.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical users.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Experience developing web applications or internal business applications.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Angular, or similar web technologies.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or another relational database platform.
- Familiarity with APIs, system integrations, and data exchange.
- Experience using Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps, or another version-control platform.
- Experience with cloud platforms or application hosting.
- Interest in manufacturing systems, industrial automation, business applications, or enterprise resource planning systems.
Preferred
- Experience developing web applications or internal business applications.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Angular, or similar web technologies.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or another relational database platform.
