Job Description

Under the direction of an assigned Battalion Chief or Fire Captain, a firefighter must learn proper methods for the suppression of fire and the use of firefighting apparatus through class work, drills and self-study; train in all phases of emergency response; assist in the elimination of fire-related emergencies; maintain fire stations and equipment; participate in fire prevention, pre-emergency planning, inspection, and public education programs; and perform all job-related activities as assigned. 

Qualifications

Applicants must be 18 at the time of application. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalency; a valid driver’s license; and current NREMT certification or Idaho State EMT certification.
In addition, candidates should demonstrate good written and oral communication skills, problem solving ability, and can work and live with peers while on a 48-hour rotating shift; perform heavy physical labor under adverse and demanding conditions; and reside within 40 miles of the center of Twin Falls, defined as the intersection of Main Avenue and Shoshone Street, within 15 months of employment.
The successful applicant must pass the Twin Falls Fire Department skills test and become IFSAC Certified Firefighter level 1 within a specified period following employment. Failure to do so may be cause for termination.

Benefits

• Medical insurance through SelectHealth (subject to the provision of the Wellness Program) is provided for the employee and dependents, effective the first of the month following approximately 60 days of employment. We currently offer a High Deductible Plan with a Health Savings Account. Depending on participation in the wellness program, co-pays for insurance vary from $0.00 to $440.00 monthly.
• Dental Insurance is offered through Delta Dental or Willamette Dental at no expense for the employee, effective the same day as the health insurance. Dependent coverage is available at the employee’s option and expense.
• Life Insurance coverage in the amount of $25,000 for the employee is provided at no cost. The employee may purchase additional coverage.
• Long-term disability insurance.
• Retirement plan through PERSI (Public Employees Retirement System of Idaho).
• Fire department personnel do not pay into the federal Social Security system and do not earn credit towards that benefit. In lieu of payment into Social Security, Fire department personnel that choose to contribute a minimum of 1% of their salary to the PERSI Choice plan will receive a 6.2% contribution by the City on your behalf into your account.

• Eligible to participate in a Medical Expense Retirement Plan
• Holiday Pay (Firefighters have additional hours added to their vacation balance in lieu of the holiday benefit.)
